Quote that inspired this piece:
“Not every victory is seen by the world.
Some are known only by the soul.”
— Unknown
My poem for this painting:
Not every beautiful thing
arrives with ceremony.
Some moments bloom quietly —
inside the chest,
behind the eyes,
in the place where a woman remembers
she is still becoming.
So let there be flowers
for the courage no one saw.
Let there be beauty
for the dream that did not die.
Let there be tenderness
for the woman who kept going,
and grace
for the part of her
that has finally begun
to come home.
Symbolism:
PEONIES: — honour, beauty, feminine grace and abundance; a celebration of the quiet richness already held within her.
SWEET PEAS: — gratitude, appreciation and delicate joy; a tender acknowledgement of the private victories known only by the soul.
KEY: — Inner beauty, recognition, and coming home to herself.
Unlocking the quiet richness already held within her.
Honouring the courage, tenderness and beauty that carried her here.
The moment she allows herself to see what was always worthy within.
In Evangeline’s Story:
This painting appears in Instalment 21 of The Turning Point.
While sitting for a portrait by Evangeline, Margaux—the celebrated former ballerina—recalls the flowers that once filled her dressing room after every performance. Among the lavish bouquets, it is the smallest she remembers most: a gift from a twelve-year-old boy who had seen her dance and, in that moment, discovered what he wished to become. The painting reflects this quiet truth at the heart of the instalment—that beauty offered from one life can awaken possibility in another—before Margaux takes Evangeline back to the glittering world of Paris in 1975, and the night her own life changed forever.
