The Turning Point - A narrative fine art series — and introducing the concept of ‘Evangeline’.
This series marks the threshold. That quiet, disorienting moment when the life you've built no longer reflects the person you're becoming.
As many turning points do, it begins with a feeling:
Restlessness. Disquiet. A whisper that there must be more.
However as I painted this series, I found myself imagining a woman — not just a subject, but a presence. I named her Evangeline.
She began as a composite of women I’ve known — capable, accomplished, yet quietly unfulfilled. She also drew from my own life. And slowly, as I painted, her story began to unfold.
I decided to not just paint the narrative, but to write it, using ‘Evangeline’ as my written vehicle to express this series in a much more layered and detailed form on the medium of Substack.
The Turning Point - This series explored the moment before the change:
- When your life still looks perfect on the outside, but inside, something is shifting.
- A marriage misaligned.
- A creative self long silenced.
- Friendships that no longer nourish.
Capturing the murmur of unrest — and the quiet courage it takes to admit you want more - told through paintings layered with the symbolic meaning of florals, each piece has an accompanying quote that I found inspiring, as well as a poem I wrote.
It also lives on Substack in the form of Evangeline.
I warmly invite you to read the story on Substack, and view the paintings and their poems from this series below:

🗝 Look closely — each major painting holds a hidden antique key.
A symbol of what’s buried deep inside you, the key to your potential, your destiny, your truth.
Alongside the layered florals, poetic titles, and emotional resonance my collectors have come to expect — each series also includes a handful of smaller works: Elements — drawn from the world of the larger pieces. Intimate and personal, they offer a way to hold a glimmer of the story… like a keepsake from a life that might just mirror your own.
The Beginning of Her Becoming
QUOTE THAT INSPIRED THIS PAINTING:
“And suddenly you know: It’s time to start something new and trust the magic of beginnings.”
— Meister Eckhart
MY POEM FOR THIS PAINTING:
It didn’t arrive with lightning—
no grand announcement,
no perfect plan.
Just a whisper
soft as sun on skin:
you’re allowed to want more.
So she listened.
Not to the noise,
but to the knowing.
And with one breath,
one gentle turn toward the light,
she began.
Not because she was ready—
but because she was called.
And beginnings,
it turns out,
do not wait for permission.
HIDDEN KEY: Symbol (and reminder!) of your huge potential, your inner strength, your destiny

The Quiet Courage of Choosing Herself
QUOTE THAT INSPIRED THIS PAINTING:
"Sometimes the smallest step in the right direction ends up being the biggest step of your life." – Naeem Callaway
MY POEM FOR THIS PAINTING:
She no longer fit
inside the life she had built.
The roles,
the expectations,
the careful scripts —
they all felt too small now.
So she began to loosen her hold,
letting go of what no longer served her,
even if it once felt safe.
The green silk draped across her shoulder
reminded her of grace,
of sensuality,
of a woman who knows her worth.
And the daisies —
unpretentious, honest —
whispered that beauty
was never about perfection,
but about truth.
She turned toward that truth,
softly, but completely.
Because courage doesn’t always shout —
sometimes it’s simply
the moment she chooses
to step into who she really is.

The Murmur of Possibility
QUOTE THAT INSPIRED THIS PAINTING:
“She was becoming herself — casting aside that which didn’t fit and stepping slowly, quietly, into the life that did.” — Inspired by Glennon Doyle
MY POEM FOR THIS PAINTING:
It came like morning —
not sudden,
but sure.
The hesitation had softened.
The doubt, quieter now.
And in its place:
a knowing.
Not loud,
but real.
She could see it —
not the whole path,
but the enticing shimmer of what lay ahead.
The shape of a life that she had, until now,
never dared to imagine.
And so she turned,
not with haste,
but with grace —
toward the light,
toward the longing,
toward the truth she'd buried beneath years of setting her dreams aside.
Above her,
the rose finch called —
a flicker of colour,
a whisper of trust —
reassuring her, reminding her:
This way.
You’re ready.
Go!

The Moment She Chose Herself
QUOTE THAT INSPIRED THIS PAINTING:
"To live the life you were born to live, you must let go of the life others expect you to live."
— Joseph Campbell
MY POEM FOR THIS PAINTING:
She didn’t ask for permission.
She didn’t wait to be chosen.
She didn’t explain her turning.
Like the sunflower,
she simply followed the light.
Not the loudest voice—
but the truest one.
The one that rose softly from within,
warm and insistent as morning sun.
And when she turned toward it,
everything changed.
Because that was the moment
she chose herself.
WHY I CHOSE SUNFLOWERS: For their unwavering instinct to follow the light — turning always toward brightness, leaving the shadows behind! Plus I love the happy, bright yellow colour of them.

What You Seek Is Seeking You
QUOTE THAT INSPIRED THIS PAINTING:
“She was never asking for too much. She was just asking the wrong person.”
– Unknown
MY POEM FOR THIS PAINTING:
For so long she carried the dream in silence,
folded neatly between the pages of her days.
It was easier to tell herself it was too much,
to shrink her asking into something smaller,
something safe.
But dreams are patient.
They wait in the shadows,
gathering strength with every secret glance
toward the life she longed for.
Her desire was never unreasonable—
it was direction.
A compass disguised as restlessness,
a whisper disguised as doubt.
And then the moment came—
quiet, undeniable—
when she understood:
what she sought had been seeking her all along.
So she turned,
not because she was ready,
but because she was called.
And the horizon no longer seemed that far away.
WHY GERBERAS? - I love that they’re fully open and big, symbolic of readiness and becoming - a feeling of ‘Let’s Go!!’

What The Heart Already Knows
QUOTE THAT INSPIRED THIS PAINTING:
“There comes a day when you realise turning the page is the best feeling in the world — because you realise there is so much more to the book than the page you were stuck on.”
— Zayn Malik
MY POEM FOR THIS PAINTING:
It wasn’t loud.
It never had been.
Just a quiet pull —
toward the things that softened her chest,
that lit her eyes,
that made the world feel wide again.
A colour.
A scent.
The way someone said her name
and meant it.
She used to ignore it.
Busy herself with shoulds and smiles.
But now…
she was listening.
And in the listening,
she remembered:
This is the way home.
Not because it made sense —
but because it felt like her truth.
WHY I FEATURED THE PINK ROSE: It has a gentle certainty (like it’s beautifully scented petals),
— not loud or showy, but quietly clear.
A symbol of the moment she stopped second-guessing and simply followed what felt like home.

A Life That Feels Like Hers
QUOTE THAT INSPIRED THIS PAINTING:
“Don’t trade authenticity for approval.”
— Brené Brown
MY POEM FOR THIS PAINTING:
She stopped performing the version
they applauded.
She chose quiet mornings,
ripe pears,
flowers that turned their faces to the sun —
just like her.
She no longer needed to impress.
She only needed to belong
to herself.
And in that belonging,
in that soft return,
her life began to bloom —
bright, golden,
and forward-facing.
Finally,
it felt like hers.
PEARS & HANDWRITTEN LETTER:
The pears represent the quiet beauty of her new life — unrushed, ripe, nourishing, and sweet.
The handwritten letter is a symbol of self-recognition: the moment she began writing her life as she truly wanted it to be.
HIDDEN KEY: Symbol (and reminder!) of your huge potential, your inner strength, your destiny
